Overview

Smart Meter Security Architecture

AMI(Advanced Metering Infrastructure) is KEPCO's next-generation power infrastructure for remotely measuring and managing electricity consumption. With power data from tens of millions of households transmitted over networks, robust security is essential.

Hardware-based security. Keypair's KSE Security Chip is embedded directly in Smart Meters and communication modems, providing hardware-level encryption and key protection that cannot be achieved by software alone.

KCMVP Certified crypto-module. NIS KCMVP certification ensures the security standards required for critical national infrastructure are met.

Security provided by the KSE Security Chip

Hardware security features designed exclusively for Smart Meters

KCMVP Certified Security

The NIS KCMVP-certified KSE Security Chip is embedded in Smart Meters and modems, guaranteeing national-standard encryption.

End-to-End Encryption

Data is encrypted across every segment from the Smart Meter to the KEPCO server, completely blocking eavesdropping, tampering, and unauthorized access.

Secure Key Storage

Cryptographic keys are stored securely inside the hardware Security Chip, protecting them from software hacking or physical theft.

Tamper Detection

Physical attack attempts are detected in real time and key data is automatically wiped to preserve the integrity of the Security Chip.

Data Flow

Power Data Transmission Flow

The secure data path from Smart Meter to KEPCO server

01

Smart Meter

The KSE Security Chip embedded in each household's Smart Meter safely measures and encrypts electricity consumption.

02

Communication Modem

The modem equipped with the KSE Security Chip securely transmits encrypted data to the DCU.

03

DCU Aggregation

The Data Concentrator Unit (DCU) collects data from multiple modems and relays it to upstream servers.

04

KEPCO Server

The KEPCO central server decrypts received data to manage electricity consumption.
